I’ve been asked several times for a recommendation for a quick ‘Intro to IT’. There are a handful of decent courses offered for free by Google and other large tech entities, but they all assume that you either need to be taught what a mouse is, or they’re specifically focused on computer repair.
There does not seem to be a list of resources or courses for people who are familiar enough with computers that they can find the command prompt and just want to understand the overall concepts of our interconnected world.
The following list tries to thread that needle. It isn’t intended to teach anyone how to manage these things but is instead intended to allow someone to follow a technical conversation. It is a mix of videos, articles, and applications that are available for free and provide an intro into six key areas, plus a section at the bottom with stuff that spans multiple categories or is just cool:
